Teens need information about contraception and reproductive health care well before they become sexually active. They need to understand how various methods of birth control work, how to understand and minimize risks, and how to access health care services. They need support and encouragement from their peers, adults, and the community to increase their comfort levels with seeking out the tools and information they need to be healthy. Importantly, they need full access to confidential, safe, and convenient family planning services. Parents, educators, health care providers, and others can play a vital role in helping teens learn about, obtain, and use contraception and reproductive health care services effectively.
