US Virgin Islands (November 10, 2020) โ At around 11:45 am it was reported that a generator was on fire at the Morris F. DeCastro clinic on St. John. The fire only impacted the generator and was quickly contained.
Deputy Fire Chief Clarence Stephenson of the Virgin Islands Fire Service has disabled the generator by removing its battery in an effort to identify the issue with the equipment and prevent further damage.
Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the adjacent building and all staff and others at the clinic are safe. Flu shot administration has been canceled for the afternoon. Electricity has been restored, so normal clinic operations will continue despite the generator being down.
Health Commissioner Justa E. Encarnacion and Assistant Health Commissioner Dr. Nicole Syms expressed their gratitude to the Virgin Islands Fire Service and the Virgin Islands Police Department for their quick response and assistance in controlling the fire and keeping everyone safe.
