DOH Launches Electronic Birth & Death Records System

The Department of Health is pleased to announce the implementation on June 5, 2017 of the Office of Vital Records and Statistics, Vital Records Information Management System (VRIMS).  VRIMS, is an integrated web-based software solution developed to support the administration of an electronic natality and mortality registry.  Health Commissioner Michelle S. Davis has been a strong supporter of all USVI inter-agency collaborative projects with a focus on improving the ability to provide real-time data to drive policy decisions that impact the health of residents.

Health Commissioner, Michelle S. Davis, PhD, said, “The implementation of the VRIMS systems brings the territory one step closer to mirroring electronic birth and death systems on the national level. This information will better position the Department of Health to identify disease burden and develop appropriate prevention programs.”

This system is the result of a collaborative effort between the Department of Health and the Department of Education, as part of the Virgin Islands Virtual Information Systems (VIVIS), Early Childhood Domain. The goal of which is to provide useable, timely and accurate data accessible to the department’s relevant stakeholders and other government agencies.  VRIMS facilitates the collection and dissemination of data used to improve health and educational outcomes in the territory.
