A health assessment is a snapshot in time of the health status and needs of a community.  The USVI Department of Health created the USVI 2020 Community Health Assessment report as part of a long-term health planning process that began in 2019. The purpose of the USVI 2020 Community Health Assessment is to inform public health and health care planning and improvement efforts of the USVI Department of Health and its partners—including sister government agencies, federal agencies, and local organizations with roles in improving resident health and wellness. 

The USVI 2020 Community Health Assessment is the first health assessment developed by the DOH in over a decade. It is a first step in the USVI Department of Health’s Healthy Virgin Islands initiative, a ten-year effort to achieve the DOH’s vision of the future of health in the Virgin Islands:

Trusted systems supporting healthy people in healthy communities for a healthy Virgin Islands. The USVI 2020 Community Health Assessment is a starting place for creating change—change that will enable all Virgin Islanders to pursue their own health regardless of background or socioeconomic circumstance.

The assessment presents data on several health topics ranging from vital statistics to the social determinants of health. The report is available in different formats, including a health profile summary. We encourage our partners to download the version that best supports their work to improve health and health equity.
