The rebuild of the Knud Hansen WIC building for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) on St. Thomas will restore the physical building and provide equipment, technology and other infrastructure damaged as a result of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. When completed in September 2023, this new 5,200 square foot, state-of-the-art structure will provide a centralized, service location for the participants of the WIC Program and staff on the island of St. Thomas.
The $3.7 million dollars being used for the construction of this building comes from the original $6,313,056 grant provided by the August 2018 US Department of Agriculture award to the U.S. Virgin Islands (VI) Department of Health’s (DOH) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This award is pursuant to the authorities of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (P.L 115-123).
