V.I. Department of Health Advises Consumers of Skippy Peanut Butter Recall

US Virgin Islands — The VI Department of Health (VIDOH) announces that Skippy Foods, LLC voluntarily recalled jars of several types of SKIPPY® Peanut Butter due to the possibility that the product might contain fragments of stainless steel from a piece of manufacturing equipment. This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The voluntary recall occurred nationwide on Friday, April 2nd and involves 9.353 cases of 161,692 pounds of the product. The specific products impacted by the recall include SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread, SKIPPY® Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter Spread and SKIPPY® Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein.

The VIDOH advises the public that only one of the recalled products are WIC approved and that product is not widely used by VI WIC program participants. However, the VIDOH is proactively advising the public as a precaution.

It is recommended that consumers make sure they do not have any of the recalled products, by referring to the lot numbers listed below and checking the code date, “Best If Used By”, located on top of the lid.

The Consumer Engagement team is available Monday – Friday, 8 am to 4 pm Central Time.

The VIDOH advised the public that thus far there have been no consumer complaints.
