In recognition of National Breastfeeding Month, the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) division of the Department of Health will be hosting ceremonies, on each island, honoring and educating mothers, in the territory who breastfeed.
The ceremonies will take place on:
St. Croix, at the Charles Harwood Complex, in the WIC Clinic, on Monday, August 15th, from 10am.-12pm.
St. John, at the Morris De Castro Clinic, on Wednesday, August 24th, from 10am-12pm.
St. Thomas, at the Tutu Park Mall, in the WIC Clinic, on Thursday, August 25th, from 10am-12pm.
Presentations and videos will be shown to inform moms on the long-term benefits of breastfeeding for infants and young children. Activities such as games and door prizes will be enjoyed by attendees/participants. Every mother that attends will also receive a gift bag (with goodies) and a Certification of Appreciation. One of the highlights of the event includes the featuring food from WIC resources, providing a visual example on how moms can use WIC foods to maintain a nutritional diet for themselves and their baby.
We invite the mothers and mothers-to-be this event. Breastfeeding allows for a healthier baby.
The VI Department of Health encourages mothers to breastfeed.
Happy National Breastfeeding Month!
