DOH Provides Free HIV Testing in Observance of National HIV Testing Day

Today, Monday, June 27th is National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). In observance of NHTD the Virgin Islands Department of Health’s HIV Prevention Program will be conducting Free HIV Testing services and prevention counseling at the following locations:

St. Thomas
Walgreens
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

St. Croix:
Charles Harwood Complex, 2nd Floor, Suite 2171
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Please note: Nearly 1 in 6 Americans, who have HIV, do not know they are infected. If you are between the ages of 13-64, or are pregnant, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends you be tested for HIV at least once as a part of routine healthcare, and more often if you are at high risk for infection.

Testing is particularly important if you are part of a population that is heavily affected by HIV. These populations include African Americans, Latinos, and gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) of all races – particularly young African American MSM (ages 13-24), who have higher rates of new HIV infection than any other race/ethnicity or gender.

The only way to know if you’re infected with HIV is to get tested. Knowing your HIV status gives you the power to control your health and your future; getting tested has never been easier.

Protecting yourself and others against HIV starts with knowledge. Knowing the facts about HIV will help you make informed decisions about sex, drug use, and other activities that may put you and your partners at risk for HIV. Know your status.

Get Tested! Get Treated; and Reduce HIV transmission!
