This afternoon Dr. Michelle Davis, Department of Health Commissioner Nominee and Deputy Commissioner Kimberly Jones visited the Queen Louise Home for children. They presented the Director with 25 mosquito nets for the orphanage’s residents. The nets can easily cover the baby cribs and the beds of the older residents.
They spoke with the Director, Dana Holtz about the Zika Virus, Zika prevention and testing procedures for suspected cases. “The Department of Health continues to work with the CDC and our HHS Regional Health Administrator to control this potential outbreak and protect the residents and visitors to the Territory,” stated Deputy Commissioner Jones.
To date the Virgin Islands Department of Health has distributed approximately 3000 mosquito nets focusing their efforts on Pregnant Women in the Territory. The DOH will be providing free flu and pneumonia shots tomorrow (Friday) January 29th form 9am to 2 pm on the Island of St Croix at the AARP office, they will also be distributing free mosquito repellant and information about the ZIKA virus. DOH will be conducting a training session on the island of St. Thomas at 1 pm at the Maternal and Child Healthcare Clinic. All Healthcare providers are i9nvited to attend this open training.
